One day before the end of the month

Poker has been quite hectic this month. I’ve been up and down and up and down and up again. I am up right now :D. Even though it was a swingy month, overall I think I played pretty good poker.

I think I still stack myself too lightly sometimes and I still don’t have full control on my tilt but overall I think I played solid poker throughout the month.

Tomorrow will be the last day of the month and I will put up a PT graph of the month along with a recap of what happened in the month. I intend to start doing this every month. I think that doing this in the blog will help keep me honest in my assessment of my poker abilities.

Ok, I have re-enabled the possibility to post comments. I am using a few Spam detectors and we’ll see how it goes.

The last time comments where enabled, I got so much spam that my provider closed the database because it was getting to many hits… :(

Hopefully things will go smoother now…

No more comments allowed on the site.

The blog has been down for a few days… Why? GoDaddy locked the MySQL database.

Here is what I got from GoDaddy:

Dear Sir/Madam,

We have determined that your database, xxxxxxx, for warroompoker.com is causing
CPU over-utilization. This can be caused by reasons including, but not
limited to non-optimized scripts, high traffic, form spamming, etc.
The database has been suspended until you can identify the issue causing the
overutilization. Once identified and resolved, please reply with a
short summary of what has been done so we can submit a reinstatement
request. If the issue is not able to be resolved, you may need to move
to a more robust hardware solution for your site such as a Dedicated
Server.

The issue appears to be occurring with queries run from your site to
the wp_comments table. You may want to research online issues with
wp_comments table in the wordpress database.

Thanks,

Hmmmmm… Looks like WarRoomPoker.com is being spammed heavily. :-)) I already knew that! Askimet has caught something like 55k spam comments. I did not think it would affect the server tough… :-|

I made a simple test: I receive via email a backup of the site on a daily basis. The size of the file is 7.5mb. It’s basically a text file, so I edited the text file and removed all the comments from it and saved the file. The file shrunk to a a mere 453k… 7mb of spam… :-\

I never realized I received so much spam…

So in order to comply with GoDaddy and to prevent the spammers to keep spamming the site, I decided to take the drastic route: No more comments.

I found this link: Combating Comment Spam FAQ very helpful. I opted for this solution:

Delete wp-comments-post.php
The ultimate end-all solution to your comment spam troubles. This will effectively disable comments and is good for stopping comment spam floods. No one will be able to comment on your WordPress site.

Conclusion, no one can make comments on the site anymore. Not that there was a lot, but I think it’s sad I have to resort to this because of some f..ing spammers.

Sorry folks.
