Quick update

I played 572 hands today. I thought I would play a lot more, but my parents came to visit us today…

What’s nice is that I made 643.90$ in profit!!! That’s 56.28 BB/100 baby! B-)

It’s funny because I got lucky on the first 2 hands of the session. Dont get me wrong, I had good hands, but I was behind both times. First hand I was outkicked and I hit 2 pairs on the river. Second hand I had 2 pairs (AQ) against a set of T and I hit a second Q on the turn :-".

I got some trash talk about those two hands. I love it! :-))

Those 2 hands acount for about 250$. The rest was won “honestly” I promise… ;)

I found Donk town last night!

I played some poker last night. I had some beautiful tables with genuine donks. You know the certified types. They passed all their exams and all…

There were some pretty bad plays on these tables let me tell ya! But, when there are bad plays there are bad beats and it seemed I was on the receiving end all night long.

Man was it frustrating. It seems that every time I had a big pair one of the donks had a bigger one, 2 pairs one of the donk had a set, a set a bigger set.

I got AA cracked twice (once by runner runner 2 pairs) and KK once ( by Q2o!). I split a pot with AA vs 63s. Oh! I have to show this one:

PokerStars No-Limit Hold’em, $1.00 BB (4 handed)

saw flop|saw showdown

SB ($22.75)
BB ($93.25)
UTG ($351)
Hero ($111.05)

Preflop: Hero is Button with , .
UTG calls $1, Hero raises to $5, 2 folds, UTG calls $4.

Flop: ($11.50) , , (2 players)

Turn: ($25.50) (2 players)

River: ($67.50) (2 players)
UTG bets $35, Hero calls $35.

Final Pot: $137.50
Main Pot: $137.50, between UTG and Hero. > Split: UTG ($68.75), Hero ($68.75).

Results
UTG has (straight, queen high).
Hero has (straight, queen high).
Outcome: UTG wins $68.75. Hero wins $68.75.

I actually lost 25c in that pot because of rake :-<.

Anyways, I dropped 272$ for the night. The good thing is that I did not make that many mistakes. I made one big one when I called an all-in with my on a board and bandit had .

But other than that I don

The million dollar poker experiment

I received an email from Matt Novak telling me that they are trying an experiment with 3 players and asking me to talk a little about it in my blog.

I remember about one year ago someone attempting something similar, but it never got off the ground. I am always interested in poker challenges so I will follow this one closely.

The experiment.
They are providing 3 players with a $10 000 bankroll and these players will have one year to bring it to 1 000 000$. By the looks of it they will be playing No Limit Holdem (my game! :D ). They will be playing within constraints.

Here are the constraints:
1. Play with a moderate Starting Amount:
2. Withdrawing money off of the table:
3. Mandatory cooling off period:
4. Giving in to fatigue:
5. Considering pot odds:
6. No slow playing:
7. Push Pre-Flop :
8. Limited Drawing:
9. Play at lower limit tables:
10. Only play premium hands:

I am not sure about the constraints #1 and #2. In the details, they say that they will only bring 1/2 stack to the table and withdraw when they reach 3 times their initial starting amount. Personally I prefer to bring the max and I am happy when I have a stack 50% over the max buy-in. I feel that people respect me more that way.

By the looks of these constraints, it seems they will be playing what we call NL Circus Style. Basically, they only play the best starting hands and they try to play only 2 streets. They raise or push preflop. On the flop they push or fold.

Here is the site if you want to follow up on it. I know I will ;)

Still don’t understand

PokerStars No-Limit Hold’em, $1.00 BB (4 handed)

UTG ($26)
Button ($100.55)
SB ($76.25)
Hero ($108.05)

Preflop: Hero is BB with , .
UTG raises to $4, 1 fold, SB calls $3.50, Hero calls $3.

Flop: ($12) , , (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, UTG bets $10, SB calls $10, Hero calls $10.

Turn: ($42) (3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, UTG bets $12 (All-In), SB calls $12, Hero raises to $30, SB raises to $48, Hero raises to $66, SB calls $14.25 (All-In).

River: ($182.25) (3 players, 2 all-in)

Final Pot: $182.25

Results below:
Hero has (flush, queen high).
UTG has (two pair, queens and sevens).
SB has (one pair, sevens).
Outcome: Hero wins $182.25.

SB called with a straight draw on a freaking dangerous board. Then he tried to bully me off of the pot with a dead player already in the hand… Why would I raise in this spot? He must know that I beat the all-in player (or that I think I beat the all-in player). I can’t possibly fold to his raise here…

For the life of me, I can’t understand what they are thinking.

Oh well…. At least I am making money. :D

BB mucks

When I went all-in, BB said: “AA?” and he called. =D>

Why would he call for that amount baffles me. I had been playing pretty tight. I was aggressive, true, but I think I always showed a good hand on the river when it went that far. This guy called his whole stack and he thought he was behind to AA.

I am trying to understand the thought process that goes through the mind of this kind of player. I think it looks something like:

My party Poker Steps adventure ends today

I had entered a Steps tournament some time ago on Party Poker.

The way the Steps works on Party is that you buy for a small amount and you play a SNG with 10 other people. If you finish in the first x you move up to the following Step until you reach the final Step (Step 5).

The Step 5 is a 10 man SNG and the first 4 get paid:

4th 1 200$
3rd 1 800$
2nd 2 500$
1st 4 500$

Well I managed to wound my way up to the final Step some time ago, but the tables for the final step always take a long time to fill up. So it took me numerous tries to be able to play it. Today I sat down at 17:28 on the table and there was one other player waiting. Two hours later, the table was full and we were starting the game.

How did I do? Well they say an image is worth a thousand words so here goes:

In conclusion, W0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000TAH!
